Successful B-Corp re-certification: AustroCel improves its sustainability score

April 2024

AustroCel Hallein has successfully completed its B-Corp re-certification and significantly improved its sustainability score. The company is thus sending a strong signal for social and ecological responsibility.

AustroCel Hallein has successfully completed its recertification as a B Corporation and increased its score from 80 to almost 104,7 points - a significant improvement that exceeds the global average of around 95 points. Currently, 9,500 companies in 160 industries and 96 countries worldwide are certified as B Corporations.

B Corp certification is an internationally recognized seal of quality for companies that meet high standards in the areas of social responsibility, environmental awareness and transparency. The elaborate certification process assesses how a company affects employees, society, the environment and customers. AustroCel's successful re-certification underlines its commitment to sustainable management and continuous improvement.

“We are living the circular economy by optimizing the use of wood and producing valuable materials from all by-products and waste products in our biorefinery. The new hydrogel is a good example of this, as the natural raw material lignin from brown liquor was only used thermally in the past. Now we are producing a valuable product ourselves, which we expect to have great future potential due to current climatic challenges,” explains AustroCel CEO Wolfram Kalt.

This success is the result of the dedicated work of the entire team. Together, AustroCel is setting new standards in the sustainable use of resources and the further development of biorefinery technology.
